That phrase is the Broz mantra. You simply can't listen to your body because it's lying to you. Broz can cite countless examples of athletes setting PR's on days they didn't even want to train, as well as days where the athlete felt like a million bucks but didn't fare so well in the gym.

Fact is, when I visited Broz he explained that the previous week his wrist was so sore that he could barely warm up with the bar during split jerks, but he pushed through it, eventually felt warmed up, and ended up jerking 405 lbs. The following day his wrist pain had vanished.

He describes this phenomenon as "floating pain" – your body has to hurt somewhere. It will simply migrate from one place to the next while you sleep, and when you awaken you'll discover where it landed.
Max Out on Squats Every Day | T Nation

Was feeling like shit all day. On pain meds for tendinitis. Mouth hurting from dental work yesterday. Wanting to shit but nothing coming out. Bored as hell from work.

Then I remembered that quote, so I got out of bed.

Had one of my best squat sessions ever.

Do you have any experience like this?

Quantitatively one of the best? By what measure?

    Or it felt really good?

Unless I'm overtired enough to be unfocused on form, my "too tired" sessions end up being some of my most productive; I think my brain sitting at a low idle shuts off the mental noise I have buzzing all the time. The rest of the world and whatever else is going on in life disappears once the bar's off the pins.

I actually like grinding a good-form last rep on a ID; it feels like progress.

    yes, Tuesday.
Was dizzy when warming up in the gym, thought vertigo was coming on, and or dehydrated.
Two day proir did a long mountain hike: calves, hip flexors sore . . . shin splints thing going on.
    Weight was down 2 lbs.

I hit all of my targeted weights on my strength lifts . . . one of which was deadlifts, which I thought was amazing.

    Sometimes I feel like shit and slow/weak . . .
I'll study the video on my last (heaviest) warmup . . .if the bar speed looks good, it gives me confidence to overcome my shitty feelz on the worksets.

Obviously this is adding to the internal pressure stabilizing your spine. It's like a super-max double-ended valsalva.
