I have been working out at 5 AM on the weekdays for a little over a month. It sucks. Form breaks down quicker and I never feel like I have a lot of energy. For those of you who work out in the early AM, do you eventually get used to it? Does it ever feel like working out in the late afternoon or early evening feels?

I tried it for a couple months but had to abandon the idea. I bet it's an individual thing, but I guess I'm just a big softie in the morning (after I pee.)

I train at 6am. Just make sure to get your sleep and you'll be fine.

You can adapt. I've been getting up at 5 am to train with nothing but a (big) cup of coffee for years - fasted even! (Shhh, don't tell the gainzzz crowd). I never wanted to train in the afternoon / evening since the morning just fits my schedule way better - when I get home from work I just want to relax and unwind.

Then again, I also go to bed at 9-9:30 ... so if you are a night owl ymmv!

I always thought if I switched to early AM workouts I would take a big reset and work back up. If everything was a grind I would probably just stay in bed.

In my early twenties I used to exclusively train at 5am, which meant I was getting up at 430 or earlier to get to the gym on time. I loved it because the weight area was devoid of human life, and I had a solid 2 hours to lift, shower, eat before heading to work.

I made shit for progress after a while, too, mostly because I didn't properly adapt my sleep/recovery to compensate for the 1.5 hours of sleep I was shorting myself 3 times a week.

For a while I switched to going at 630, which was much easier to adapt to because I was getting up at about the same time as I would on a non-lifting day, so little to no sleep loss.

I'd say if you're having trouble at 5am, look at your recovery and go from there.

I have a client who trains fasted in the morning. She has been making good progress. I have her load up on carbs before bed

I prefer to train in the mornings. Make sure your PM nutrition is on point and caffeine.

I train at 5:30 am. I get up at 5:00 am. I enjoy training in the morning. Just like Murphy, the gym is pretty empty which means I can hog the Squat rack. Make sure you go to sleep early 9:00 to 9:30.
