Haha, loved the article, looking forward for more.

You should write an article about the low-medium intensity cardio bullshit every girl does at the gym.

    Site is looking great too.

I always enjoy when Rip rips the fitness industry a new one, and boy, I need something to restore my sanity after discussing lifting with my uncle. According to him, chin-ups are an exercise to used for "defining", that I should do concentration curls because they'll make my arms really sore, shoveling show is a better lower back workout than you can get in the gym, and he confuses the deadlift with a behind the neck press.

I actually have a jihad against situps currently, for reasons I'd suppose are obvious.

Occasionally I'll put forth the following unassailable proof in some forum:

"Doing unweighted situps to get a stronger torso is like pumping your fist in the air hoping to get huge biceps."

The most common responses go along the following lines:

    A. The other person(s) aren't intelligent enough to grasp what I said.

    B. "But situps are a good excercise!"

    C. I'm a testosterone-laden meathead.

So at best, it's like attacking someone's cherished childhood friend, like calling Mr.Rogers a bum. At worst, like attacking the foundations of someone's religion.

    re: Vocabulary

It awes me how the dumbest kinds of words manage to become memes. Is "core" in any way better than the word "torso"? Or "nuker" better than "wizard"?

Of course not. They're inferior words and need to die.

    re: Tennis

Strength training becomes much bigger in this sport as the years go by. Probably partly because of the Williams sisters, but also natural selection.

Have you ever seen one of the Williams play another woman? First off, Serena and Venus are amazons to begin with. Combined with the fact they very likely know what a deadlift and benchpress are, their matches are just outrageously one-sided. Like a grown man playing a ten year old.

You may be onto to something here. Being somewhat reasonable, I feel confident in saying that 100% of all males feel queer when lifting with machines. I know I always felt like my legs were in stirrups while being inspected by a speculum for an OB-GYN appointment.

We need to start a movement; much like Jonestown. Men will once again act like men. We will lift heavy barbells, eat red meat, drink dark beer, not shave, spray tan or wear Victoria's Secret underwear! We will call it "Riptown" or "Ripville" maybe "Ripwood" perhaps "Rip Gulch". I believe this will let us reclaim our manhood, stop taking Viagra, stablize the dollar, cure Global Warming, & finally get that sex tape of Ms. California masterbating released!

    Interesting read.

I am taking the NSCA-CPT exam on Monday and applying to Physical Therapy school next fall...

I've learned much about strength training with barbells in the past 2 months...

After reading Starting Strength and Practical Programming in September; I've gained 25lbs of mass, squatted 300lbs, benched 225lbs and dead lifted 360lbs. All personal records, that I came no where near after ~1.5 years of half-assed training.

From my limited, albeit eye opening, experience I plan on carrying your message of strength training through proper barbell exercises on through my training and future physical therapy career.

    Not EVERY girl.

Some of us of the female persuasion have seen the light.

By the way, this thread got me to visit the chiro today because I also cracked my back all funky while doing a clean a few weeks ago on a warmup set. (I am convinced it was related to a hormonal thing, because my spine is very predictably all cracky at a certain "time of the month.") Since my back hasn't felt happy since, I saw the chiro. The chiro first thought that I messed up my back cleaning the floors or something. I did an air clean to show him what it was, and he admitted he didn't know much about the barbell. It didn't stop him, though, from saying I had lifted too much weight. UGH.

Maybe EVERY girl in Brazil. They have a primitive, rather patriarchal culture in most of Latin America. Perhaps a Portuguese translation of BBT would help.
