I occasionally see references to older lifters, but most started lifting in their teens or twenties. I'm 55, started lifting about 2 years ago pretty haphazardly, and for about a year more systematically, reading and learning all I can about it. I'm not progressing as fast as younger guys I talk to, and have been slowed a couple of times by annoying injuries.

Is there anything that you advise doing differently for people starting weight training after the age of 50?

Lots of advice, yessir. I wrote a long article about it, and it's in Strong Enough?. Get your copy today.

Rip in a tunic is worth the price alone. So why were you on a horse in a tunic?

It's the way I always dress. Why?

Why is it the way you always dress? And why do you continue to dress that way when mounted?

I'm 50, haven't lifted in about 15 years. Just got SS:BBT and am starting the program. I like it...it's simple, fast, and I'm feeling more energized already. I like getting my workout done while other guys are still grinding out sets of curls.

When some kid asks me why I squat so deep, I tell him "Pick up Rippetoe's book. It's all in there"
