    Default Birthday 1RM attempts

I've been following the post-novice for older lifters workouts as outlined in PPST for a few months and am continuing to make slow but steady progress. I'm 5' 10", 195 pounds. My lifts now are (at least three reps for each): Squats, 355; Deadlift, 365; Bench, 185; OHP, 127.5. My next goals are 2xBW squat, 405 deadlift, BW bench and 135 press for reps.

I'm turning 55 at the beginning of May and I thought it would be fun to mark it with a lifting milestone or two. If all goes according to plan, I'll have at least 5 pounds added to squat and deadlift by my birthday and maybe another 2.5 pounds to the presses. Would I be courting disaster if a tried (after warmups, of course) a single deadlift at 390 (conveniently 2xBW), followed by another single attempt at 405? No way I would try a 4-plate squat, but maybe a single at 390? I'm pretty sure I could get a single BW bench and maybe a single 135 press, I'm just not sure about trying the 1RM deadlift or squat. Go for it, or am I deluding myself?

    Thanks.

    Hey RJP,

Congrats on your progress so far! Given your lifts, assuming at least 3 reps each, and continued training for the next 5-6 weeks, I would say that you can definitely hit those 1RM attempt for your birthday.

Go for it. You aren't deluding yourself.

    All the best!

Thanks, Mahendra. I'm feeling pretty good about my chances. I'll try to get videos to post the attempts. (Thread of Awesome if they're good, Hilarious thread if I fail).
