    Default my squat is higher than my deadlift

    squat: high bar, shoulder width stance, parralell
    deadlift: shoulder wide stance, double over-hand grip, grip larger than feet stance

    is it because i suck?

    The most common culprit here is a high squat. Most people's concept of "parallel" usually means, in practice, "what I think is parallel but is actually very much higher than parallel."

    If you're using a double overhand grip, though, it's not impossible that your grip strength may be a limiting factor.

    Your deadlift stance should be more narrow than your squat stance, for sure. You should also, as previously mentioned, make sure that you're going a couple inches below parallel, enough to engage the hamstrings. Have you tried the low-bar squat as advocated in SS? What is your squat/deadlift, anyway?

    I will wager my firstborn child that a video of your squat is very, very high and that you got here via Google search and haven't read the recommended literature.

    No offense, mind you. But in the absence of a grip injury or superheavyweight competitive status and some degree of gear, the squat to proper top-of-hip-at-thigh-below-top-of-knee depth will be 50-100 less than the deadlift.

    Agreed. You're squatting high.

    That said, my alternating grip deadlift is much higher than my overhand grip DL (235kg (518#) vs 180kg (397#). Still better than my squat.

    I do not squat high, as can be evidenced by the video I posted earlier and my squat is 50lbs higher than my deadlift at 495 and 455 respectively.

    Other obvious explanation is anthropometry: small hands, short limbs.

    Your numbers confuse me. Any theories for why your deadlift is lagging?

    I know that since I started focusing on squatting, my deadlift carryover has been decreasing. My squat is getting incredibly close to my deadlift whereas before my deadlift would increase one-to-one with my squat. I believe my legs are now much "stronger than" my lower back which rarely gets exposure to conventional deadlifting anymore.
