The bad experiences were mostly down to packaging and shipping problems.
Today I noticed one of the sleeves on my el cheapo bar(got on Craigslist) is shot. I have been working 50-60 hour weeks so I said screw it and laid down the cash for a Rogue Power bar. I was torn between the Roger Power or the B&R bar, but since I lift in an unconditioned garage when the temperature outside gets to 100 some days, I decided against a bare steel bar. Plus the recent bad posts kind of helped push my decision towards the Rogue bar.
The bad experiences were mostly down to packaging and shipping problems.
I've had one for a year and love it.. good choice. Knurling is sharp though.
Yeah, don't expect any better shipping with a different bar. Both of the operator bars I own came out of their cardboard tubing during transit resulting in scuffed up ends. Their functionality was not impaired, however. So it seems like it just depends on how shitty your UPS guys are.
Yeah I personally don't really believe that the defects in my bar were a result of solely UPS. I suspect that the bar wasn't straight when it left the factory, and the issue with the sleeve fit could only have occurred in manufacturing.
Anyways, the Rogue Bars at our gym actually were packaged better than the B&R, with metal end caps crimped onto the tube to prevent the tube from opening. They are fairly new bars though, so maybe that's something they changed after you got your Operator bars.
I got my B&R bar from Rogue last week. It arrived intact & straight, I love it.
The packaging was inadequate: a strong cardboard tube but only duct tape over the ends.
Inside the bar itself had plastic cups at each end, but that didn't help much as the bar had slid around, punched out the tape, and lost the cup at that end.
Maybe Rogue could wedge the bar so it doesn't slide?
While bringing it down the stairs, the bar slid out of the tube and punched a hole in my basement paneling, oops.
I guess I'm no better than the UPS guys...
I'm sure the B&R is a great bar but I don't think I will regret my choice since my old bar is just a cheap piece of shit that I got from craigslist with a 300 pound oly plate set. The sleeves have plastic in them and one of them won't even spin anymore.
Wow, the Rogue power bar is even nicer than I hoped. It's like night and day between it and my old bar. I never knew sleeves spun so easily. The packaging was good as well. There were metal end caps in the ends of the tubes and it was duct taped heavily. no issues at all with the bar. Straight as an arrow and no bad spots in the knurling which is also like night and day between the Rogue and my old name unknown bar.
