high hamstring issues
Hey Andy,
Got a mild high hamstring tear/strain about 2.5 weeks ago. Since it wasn't all that severe, I followed an abbreviated Starr Protocol as follows for a week, while continuing to Squat (no pain at all), bench, press.
Day 1: Squat 275 5x5, Deadlift 135 3x20
Day 2: 135x20, 185 3x15
Day 3: Front Squat 260 3x5, Deadlift 135x20, 185x15, 225 2x10 -> hamstring basically pain free
Day 4: Rest
Day 5: Squat 345 1x5 PR, Deadlift 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 315 3x5 -> worked up to a heavier set of 5, 315 felt a little sketchy but not bad, so I just did a couple more sets.
This week I went back to my normal program, while icing regularly.
Today I worked up to 365 for 1x5 on deadlift (PR is 415 for 1x5) and I still feel it getting aggrevated a little. It didn't hurt really, but I felt myself trying to favor my right leg during the lift.
Any suggestions going forward?

Be patient. I had a slight tear in mine a few years ago and re-injured it twice, both times deadlifting. Focus on building your squat back up first. The "dead" part of the deadlift opens you up to re-aggravation.

thanks... quick follow up question - the tear occurred while power cleaning, but I had noticed a dull ache in my hamstring after deadlifting the prior 3 weeks. I believe it was the deadlifting that somehow aggravated it and the power clean just pushed me over the edge.
currently cleans and snatches don't seem to bother me at all as I work back up to 225. anything wrong with continuing those while i work that DL back up?

I guess if it doesn't hurt go ahead. Its your hamstring
