I have two installed on my Android phone but I wonder, is there a plate calculator that "asks" the user how many of each type of weight they own? The "Weighter Plater" app allows us to choose which weights we own (I own 45's, 35's, 25's, 10's, 5's, and 2.5's) but it doesn't ask how many of each.

I've often wondered how I could improve my training experience. A handy app that tells me the type and number of each plate to put on the bar might just be exactly what I need to progress. Almost like a weightlifting Bill O'Materials. If I could cross-check that Bill O'Materials against my plate inventory, that would be even better. Maybe the next gen app could track a barcode on each plate, so my inventory tracking system would know which weight I used.

How much weight are you lifting that the numbers are too big to add up in your head? I, for one, am quite jelly.

The more you train and have to calculate the total weight on the bar the more proficient you will become. The more reliant on an app the less proficient.
I don't want to have to look at my phone to figure out the plates.
Come on now, I'm a product of the 60's, I've done more damage to my brain cells than I care to admit. If I can figure out the plates just be redundancy than anyone can.
Have we become that dependent on apps?

There is but i forgot what it is called.

in the spirit of being helpful, blackironbeast.com asks but it isn't really what you are looking for.
And screw all you math minded people. Some of us here are creatives.

I'm a "math minded" person but really after a while you just get used to the plate combos and remember. I'm not sitting there adding it all up unless maybe it's for a 1RM attempt and I want to make sure I didn't misload it.

edit: Also, understanding math and being creative aren't mutually exclusive. A lot of creativity is required to design something as an engineer, for instance.
