    Default Can you get stronger without gaining weight?

    • starting strength seminar december 2024
    • starting strength seminar february 2025
    Say I wanted to stop at gaining weight at 200 lbs (I'm only 5'7), and go back to eating maintenance. Can I still get stronger?

    I see guys that are like 165 lbs with 400+ lbs squat and I get jealous. How do they do it?

    Yes, but at a slower rate and not on a linear progression model (at least not for a sustainable time). You would want to get good control of your diet and use a program better suited for your goals.

    yes, it just takes longer and you dont get to have awesome traps.

    and what do you think those 165lb guys would squat at 200? probably something impressive

    Good question.

    I just started running the texas method even though I'm not at my goal weight yet. I'm 185 and I want to get to 200 for the time being.

    Beginners can progress linearly for a while without gaining weight, or so I have found. Of course it gets more difficult sooner.

    Texas Method is an appropriate progression model once you've stopped making linear gains on SS.

    I find it hard that you will attain you "maximum muscular weight" (I know some people here don't agree with such concept but I don't want to get into that discussion) during linear progression.

    EDIT: Or in the near future too.
