I don't see how taking away shooting sports will make the olympics "more youthful, more urban." Where I grew up, guns were predominantly an urban youth thing.

Of course, they're probably referring to urban youth of a better socioeconomic status, the kind that watches the olympics in the first place.

"These may not be the only changes for competitive shooters in years to come. In February, 2016, the IOC proposed scrapping bullets, and replacing them with lasers. The reasoning was credited to the fact that lasers are more easily visible and television-friendly."

I had to read this part twice to make sure it actually said lasers....

The Pussification of Men continues. Carlin would be killing it right now under the current political climate.

I don't know what you said about the Olympics and I can't access the site you linked. But as far as I know the ISSF decided earlier this year to propose to us mixed/open divisions in trap, 50m rifle and 50m pistol.

The Olympics have become a joke in the past several cycles. It just isn't what it used to be sadly.

Part of using bullets is battling the recoil that occurs when firing the pistol. Of course these are the same people who tried to take wrestling out of the Olympics after the 2012 games. They tried to take wrestling out of the Olympics, it was basically the first Olympic sport and they tried to get rid of it.

This sort of reminds me of what happened to Olympic Fencing over time. It's origin was sword fighting, and it eventually "evolved" into electronic tag. Not that I think there is something inherently wrong with electronic tag, just that it bears almost no resemblance to the thing it came from. I think it's part of the reason why HEMA became a thing.

Perhaps shooting events will have a similar fate, eventually turning into an electronic game of point and click. I mean, I'm not even really into guns to begin with but that shit sounds lame as fuck.

That's so blatantly dumb. If you want to open it up to mixed gender teams, fine! Go for it! But if you feel compelled to completely water down the events in order to do that, then you are deceiving yourself and patronizing the very women you protest to support.

That, and they hate old-fashioned, "brute" sports. A runner or a gymnast with a good sob story, that's inspiration. That's where the advertising dollars are.
