So I managed to drag my girl into the gym to learn the lifts...now I can't get her out.

She is pretty tiny, (5'1" or something) and has never lifted but is quite fit. I'm thinking of getting a set of 5 kg bumpers, mainly for her deadlift and PC (once we get to that), but I'm thinking that I may also be able to use them in the future for learning to snatch.

My main question is whether it is safe to load up iron plates (10 kg, 5 kg etc) either side of the bumbers while still having it legit height off the floor. i.e. could this damage the bumpers if dropped from overhead?

Is it a worthwhile investment? (~$70) Or should i just make do with what the gym has...

My 5 and 10 pound bumpers get used all day long.

I have a set of 2.5 kg technique plates, three sets of 5 kg bumpers, and three sets of 7.5 kg bumpers at my place. They get used every day, all day long, especially for snatches.

Do NOT drop from overhead with iron and 5 kg bumpers. The bumpers won't last at all. That's actually why I bought the 7.5 kg bumpers. Anyone who needs to snatch or C&J between 30 and 35 kg has to put those on. You probably won't need the 7.5s because you just have one person, but they saved my 5s from certain death.

My 10lb bumpers collapse if I have more than 15 or 20 pounds on each side along with them. They are shit though, so maybe just try to get some decent ones that aren't too thin.

They don't exist. The Pendlay Econs are much better than the Rogues in this regard, but still...

They're on my list. My Hi Tech 5s are too tall and I don't like using them with other plates on the ground. But the girls love them on squats, bench, and press because they "make the weight look bigger".

I have a set of 10's. They are crucial for teaching the deadlift I find. I used to have to fuck around with platforms, piled up plates and all sorts to try and get the right bar height.
