Stalling on press even after reset
Hello,
I'm 5'8 and 180 lbs. Been on starting strength for about 4 months.
I stalled on the press at 120lbs.
Deloaded 10%, worked my way back up using microloading, and stalled again at 120lbs.
I've read all the articles and many posts on the forum, and it seems my options are
1. Move to intermediate programming for press only
2. Switch to 5 sets of 3 reps for press
Any feedback on which method would work better?
I'm inclined to option 2 at the moment, since Bill Starr worked with 6 sets of 3 reps. Any of you guys tried it with good results?
Looking forward to your feedback and opinions.
Thanks and regards

Has your bench gone up at all? The press is probably the most likely lift to stall based on inefficiencies in form so depending on how the rest of your lifts have gone in that time, this may be an issue for the technique forum.

I've had success with my clients by having them LP on incline bench after they stall twice on press. When its time for a reset on the incline, we switch back to overhead press and they can usually pick up LPing where they previously stalled.
My clients (mostly female) have generally stalled on bench and press at the same time, so I also sub in dips (sets of 8-12, machine assisted if necessary) for bench for a few weeks and can usually pick up on the LP of the bench.

I started SS in November. Took a 2 week vacation late Dec/early Jan and deloaded 10% on my lifts after I returned.
Deloaded once on my squat due some hip issues which I corrected with my stance
Deloaded once on bench press due to elbow pain, solved with grip width adjustment
Hit my first stall on power clean yesterday at 160lbs.
My current 3x5s are
Squat - 240lbs
Bench - 160lbs
P. Clean - 160lbs
Press - 120lbs
Deadlift 1x5 - 300lbs
Looking forward to more feedback
Thanks and regards
