    Default elbows shaking when bench

    Hello Coach Rip,

Is elbows shaking when bench the workset a common phenomenon or is there something wrong with me? I read the book and know that some of my muscles are relaxing instead of stablizing the elbows.

I am wondering if there are any cues to help me on this.

    Thanks.

It's not a horribly uncommon problem, but I can't tell you what causes it. It is a tremor that affects primarily upper-body exercises, or at least that's where it is the most apparent, and it seems to be a central nervous system of some people. I've seen it in lots of people, I have absolutely no idea what you can do about, and I don't know that it is worth worrying about.

Well I have been stalling for awhile on my bench while other lifts are going up. I thought shaking elbows resulted from bad forms have something to do with my plateau. But I guess it is not a bad form that is causing it?

If it's only during the workset, then it's not a big deal. You might have weak shoulders or humeral stabilizers.

Just focus on getting very strong on the overhead press and this problem should go away.

Except that it doesn't always go away. Sometimes it's neurological and doesn't go away with training.

It occasionally happens to me on the last set or two of a volume workout. I've always just figured it's due to fatigue. Trying to pull the bar apart really hard helps stabilize things, but it doesn't make the shaking completely stop.

    i have noticed this today.
it really doesnt affect my training (ive still made linear progression) but it always sketches my spotter out.
maybe because the hands are attached to a movable object (the bar) while the feet are attached to the earth. even though i feel my feet moving when squatting in my chucks it is much less distracting than the trembling in my arms during bench press
