    Default Deload vs. reset

    48yrs old intermediate.

I've been running HLM for 7 weeks. Some weeks I've failed to get all reps on Deads and Squats. Still, situation I've so far been able to get the prescribed reps a week or 2 later. But that seems to indicate I'm nearing a reset.

Wendler likes to program in deload weeks. Seems to me like y'all just do resets to lower weights and feel that that serves a similar/same purpose.

Is that correct? Or since I'm about to complete 8 weeks should I consider a deload week of some lighter lifting?

    Thanks

Lighter can still be stressful. So if you deload from 405x5 to 365x10 that isn't a deload. A true deload is lower in volume and intensity. A real break. The older you are the more you will cut volume and maintain intensity. We will address this extensively in the new book. Small drop in intensity, massive drop in volume. Just for a week or so.
