How tall are you ?
- Those numbers are prob reasonable by November except maybe the DL... but it varies from person to person.
Hello all,
I used to be around 300lbs of pure fat. With cardio and diet over 2 years I went down to 174. With some weight training (program similar to SS - upper lower) the past year (while not eating enough) I gained 24 pounds of muscle and fat, and I know weight 198lbs.
Now I am serious about getting as strong as possible. My goals is to be able to squat 300pounds, deadlift 374 pounds, and bench 170pounds by November. Is this unrealistic?
By eating between 2600 and 3500 clean calories, I increased in 6 SS sessions my squat from 132lbs to 185lbs, my deadlift from 198 to 264 and my bench by 10lbs (I only recently understood the form). The jumps were 11pounds per workout to the squat 44 pounds to deadlift and 4 pounds to bench. (OHP and PC are going up as well, I increased my PC from bar to 116pounds and my OHP from ??? to 83pounds).
Is this good progress? What do you think about my caloric intake? By increasing my caloric intake will I be able to maintain such progress?

Should be possible if you eat and sleep enough. In my first round of SS my starting point was around where you are now, and I ended up doing 3x5 with weights quite a bit heavier than your goal-weights in around 3 months. I ate a lot and got really fat though. But definitely not impossible.
I am 5ft8 200lbs at the moment. I dont know bodyfat at the moment (but I will in Tuesday - I take part in a study that they measure your bodyfat with various methods, ranging from caliper to MRI). I am OK, I guess.. people call me stocky, not fat. (But do they imply that I am fat? hmm)
I dont plan on getting really fat, that is why I am still experimenting with the calories. I think around 3000 (a bit more, a bit less) is the sweet spot for me. I will experiment. I am thinking of starting a log here, as it will help me get valuable feedback from you guys!
I understand why you don't want to be fat. I have done SS 2 times. The first time i ate way more than I needed and got strong really fast. The second time I ate enough to gain a little bit of weight but not nearly as much. It took me about 7 months to get the strength I got in 3 months while eating like a pig. I'm not sure if there was others factors just wanted to let you know.
You have 14 weeks until the beginning of November. Adding 15lbs per week to the squat (5lbs per session) will give you a 395lb squat, and adding 10lbs per week to the deadlift will give you a 404 deadlift. IF YOU EAT & RECOVER ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN THOSE GAINS.
My advice is to consistently train, and let the numbers be what they are. As long as they are constantly increasing, that is a good thing.
@5' 8" 200 you're still relatively fat. Even assuming ~10lbs of loose skin you don't likely want to gain more fat. There was a recent thread in the Q&A with a guy planning such surgery that was going to have him out of the gym for a few months. 2 weeks seems optimistic.
What is your interest in strength by November? What is the study about if you don't mind my asking.
Unfortunately. I have to take these 2 weeks out. I had a long year and need to wind down a bit
But nontheless, I will try to eat big and lift as hard as I can!
Today for example, which is the first of the two rest days I had:
A: 125g oats with milk and a banana
B: a eatnatural bar
C: 2 homemade burgers each with chicken breast and 1 sausage, ranch and cheese
D: 500g yoghurt + 3 big tablespoons PB + 3 big tablespoons Jelly + wholemeal bap
E: Same as C
What do you think? Do you reckon this is enough food? and is this clean enough?
