While trying to find a solution for my hip drive, I have noticed this thing:
There are 2 different knee patterns I see on the ascent from the bottom - in videos which are considered good technique by you.

First one is found on your video and on this video with a girl you are training :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVKEl...eature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g22-u...eature=related

The second can be found here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g22-u...eature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yha2X...eature=related (maybe not the best of example)

In the first pattern the knees basiclly stay tight and do not move back until late in the ascent. They seem like a tight spring and they are released near the 1/3 top of the movement at once.
Kind of mimics the way down - and you have said that the way up should mimic the way down iirc.

The second pattern is more gradual and slow.

How does this affect hip drive or form? which way should I shoot for?(I can think of some ways but am not sure).
Once again, forgive me for my ESL problem.

The first pattern was that of an experienced lifter, and the second was a kid I was working with for the first time, so the first pattern is correct. Even so, don't make the mistake of thinking that everybody looks the same when they're doing an exercise correctly. Anthropometry affects the way different people look performing squats and pulls.
