Hey guys, could you all give me a little advice on an injury my cousin is dealing with?

    - Age, Gender, current training status: 33, male, very early novice trainee

    - Chief Complaint: lower back pain when bending over, feeling like his back is going to give out

    - Narrative describing the mechanism of injury: he tells me that nothing stands out as happening, but gradually as he has started training he has had this pain.

    - Pain: 7 when bending over and certain angles
    - Describe the pain:shooting, sharp, lack of stability
    - What makes it better: not bending over
    - What makes it worse: bending over

He went to the doctor today, and explained to him the training program. The doctor advised him to stop deadlifting and squating, give up the free weights, and use machines(leg press etc) for 2 weeks and see if it improves.

His description was odd, he basically told him that his spine is crooked from something around puberty... I don't know that means. That his problem is something similar to scoliosis.

Here is a picture of the x-ray:

I have not had the chance to check is form over as we no longer live near each other, but we are going to find time to go over his technique.

How would you proceed in a situation like this?

I just wanted to get some input on this from you guys, I highly value your opinions.

I doubt it, but I'll suggest that he gets it checked.
