Do the program as it is written. Really. There are no decisions here. Just do the program, and work your rugby schedule around it. You are in no danger a screwing up either one if you do it this way.
Hey Coach Rippetoe I'm a 15 yr old sophmore and currently play rugby for my school and I would like to build mass on my body this summer. I've been reading your Starting Strength program routine and everytime I read it I feel the more Ishould do it. To the point during the summer i would have 4 days to lift would it be better to only workout twice a week and get the required rest or work 3 days and only take the one day and the weekend off. Do the program - it is IDEAL for rugby, where press and squat strength are so important. you won't understand how good until the first time you go into a ruck and end up push pressing a bigger guy who doesn't strength train onto his ass without a second thought. Good luck.
