Default Stalling on Bench Press :(

Been following the standard SS programme, currently weight a teeny-tiny 59.7kg. I stalled at 37.5kg two weeks ago and had to get someone to help lift the bar off me. I deloaded by 10% and began working my way up again. I can do 35kg fine.

When it got to my 37.5kg work set, I managed to do 4 reps successfully, then nearly busted a nut trying to do the 5th before calling for help and racking it. This pissed me off so much, it left me in a bad mood all day lol.

A guy in the gym said try doing 3x3 first, then working my way up to 3x5. Anyone have any other ideas?

I agree with the 5x3 or 8x3. You could start with 5x3 and take it up from there. Make sure you deload a little and don't grind reps. Try to make your reps very explosive if you can. It would help to see a video of your form too.

Keep at it, you will be a bench monkey in no time!!!

stick with 3x5s. 35 to 37.5 to big of a jump. Try microloading. Recommend sticking with the program and doing three sets of five across. Also, if you haven't already post a video of form.

3x3 is a good idea but too little volume.

    Also do triceps exercises.
What the hell was I thinking. It's probably because I'm not used to kilograms, but when I converted those numbers, I realized how low they are. I take back what I said and I agree with mstrofbass, EAT. Unless you're 5'4 that's way too skinny.

See above post. My mistake. It still applies to intermediate lifters though.
