    Default Switching up Press Programming

    Greetings,

I've been doing the linear novice progression for several months and have really hit a wall on my press. I've already reset, worked on technique etc and I think it is time to switch up my programming. Considering I only started benching very, very recently and hopefully have plenty of room to grow, I'm thinking of switching to this schedule:

    Sunday: Press 5x5 at 90%

    Tuesday: Bench 5x3 (linear progression)

Thursday : Press 5x1 for a weekly PR.

In your experience, is this enough to keep progress going on both lifts? I'm worried it might be pressing too much and benching too little.

For context, my last work set weights were pressing 127.5x3x3 (after failing to do 5 reps on the first set) and benching 160x5x3 @ 225, still doing a novice progression for other lifts.

Hopefully I've made this clear enough, thanks for your time

Structure is fine. Maybe bump bench volume to 5 sets. You can do standard 3x5 as a gauge for progress, and then add in 2 back off sets, slightly lighter. Little extra volume will probably help.

Thanks! Is slightly lighter like 90% of work set?
