Older man here who will be 60 this summer. I've read Mark's book for senior lifters. I've advanced through the first two levels, but the third one involves chin-ups. Even as a young man I had an issue doing five chin-ups (not enough upper body strength, too fat). Now, I'm an older man trying to do something about my fat butt, but I worry I won't even be able to do one chin-up.
Should I halt my advance at level #2 until I can pull my own body weight?

Definitely don't let progress or lack thereof on the cins or pull ups determine your programming advancement.

To get some work in on chins you could try assisted with a band or if you are in a gym you might be able to find an assisted chin up machine or at the least a lat pull down.
