The leg press is useful only for overweight or severely detrained individuals who cannot squat AT ALL. She just needs to train her squat. Like everybody else.
Hey Rip,
My girlfriend has just started using your starting strength program. She's been training for about 1.5 yrs. She has a very strong lower back but very weak legs. She managed to pull 225lbs but can barely squat 95lbs for a few reps.
When I was in Texas you mentioned that beginners with very weak legs will start with a leg press in the beginning, and then ditch it when their legs are strong enough to squat correctly. Would you recommend this for her?
And what progression would you use for the leg press before reintroducing the squat into the program?
Could you please give me some advice on how to correct this imbalance using your starting strength program?
Thank you,
Rowan

Yeah if she can barely squat 95....why not go down to like 65lbs for 3 sets of 5? Or is that crazy
Last I checked, the bar only weighs 45#...
