    Default Confused...Injury

    • starting strength seminar december 2024

    I have posted this on the forum and got a few good responses however I have not found a direct answer, which is my fault as I did not ask a direct question.

    Anyway I have been diagnosed with the following


    • Bursitis of the subdeltoid bursa
    • Tendinosis of supraspinatus
    • A 4mm echogenic focus within supraspinatus that is most likely a calcific deposit



    Now back squatting (doing front squats until it heals), pressing and to a lesser degree benching hurt the shoulder significantly. I am off to see the specialist whom I'm sure will stick a needle in me filled with some cortisol in a few weeks.

    Now after all that, is the Starr Injury Protocol beneficial for this type of injury and if so what exercise should I use i.e. press, bench or both

    I feel a ripping coming from Mr Ripptoe however I have searched the forums and not found a answer and in addition have been given varying and conflicting bits of advice from so called Trainers to physiotherapist hence my confusion.



    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    There is not much space in the shoulder - everything slides over everything else. If you put yourself through much movement or loading with your bursitis, you will only make the injury worse. Get the bursitis under control, then work on massage and rehab.

    Do you know how the injury came about? With the calcification it sounds like an old tear. But if you got this just doing SS you are doing something VERY WRONG...

    Make getting over this your biggest priority. At the age of 24 it took me several months of nursing to get my right shoulder feeling strong again.

    You will not overcome your injury if you don't do some basic research.
