    Default Speed Warm ups/Deadlift reps

    Hi Mark,

    Two questions:

    1. Is it a good idea to do my warm up sets with maximum speed? (With the idea that the explosiveness will translate over into my work sets)

    2. I'm close to the end of novice progression, doing advanced novice. My pulls are at 340lbs and are starting to feel real heavy. Instead of a deload in the near future, would switching to 3 reps be a good idea to continue milking progression?

    Thanks for your time.

    PS. I'm 5'11, 187lbs.

    1. It is a good idea to be explosive AFTER you're warm. The first warmups should be done at normal speed, and when the muscles are prepared you cam move faster.

    2. Try it, but triples tend to peak very quickly.

May I ask why? Something to do with the lack of hypertrophy that triples are missing?

Possibly. Or perhaps it's the Fry-factor, because they are so heavy relative to 1RM. I don't really know, but that has been my experience.

I haven't found this with girls (very small sample size though). For reasons I think we all get (girls can't fry themselves like boys can, it's probably a neural density thing?), threes seem to work pretty well for girls, at least in my experience so far.

We're experimenting with the same thing here. But it would not be neural density -- it's testosterone, the chronic and acute effects.
