    Andy,
My question relates to the the program you gave to John and wrote about in the case study (part 1) on your website.

Could you use powercleans after deadlifts in lieu of the deadlift backoff set(s)? If so, what kind of volume would you recommend?

    Thanks.

You could, but I prefer power cleans as a warm up to the deadlift. After an all out set of deads I'm not sure that I could generate much explosion or even hold my form together all that well.

    Hi Rob,

When running the program that Andy laid out in the first case study, I power cleaned after heavy squats earlier in the week. On my deadlift day, I did light squats for 2-3 sets of five as a warm-up prior to pulling. I found this combination to work very well for me.

Thanks John and Andy. I gave cleans a shot as part of the warmup, and I like the time efficiency aspect. What kind of volume would you recommend for the cleans done this way? I just worked up to a heavy triple.

I'm hoping to get away with just the one squat workout (again, for time efficiency), otherwise I'll try a light day before/after deadlifts as John suggests.

Working up to single top set of 1-3 a good idea
