    Default Thoughts on heavy barbell curls?

    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    • starting strength seminar december 2024
    • starting strength seminar february 2025
    What do you think are the pros and cons of heavy standing barbell curls weekly above 155x5x3 (locked knees but a little hip extension at the bottom of each rep)?

    I don't know about carryover to the big lifts, but they seem to help my weighted chins.

    No problems with heavy curls. I used to do them all the time, when big arms were of major consequence to me. They absolutely get you bigger arms and I agree, they will help your chins.

    Good to know. Reynolds says he likes them as an accessory lift, and Wendler and some other very strong lifters think they've got some carryover to benching and pressing, as well as helping with general elbow health.
