You really have to love this guy.

Chances are he never buys another beer at a bar for the next 3 years.

Damn shame they stopped him from finishing.
-
Is anyone else kind of upset they didn't let him finish? Or at least try?

One thing this article fails to mention is that he was pulling a sled with extra clothing, food, and water and was traveling on established snow machine trails between the two villages. So he was fairly prepared for the very difficult task ahead of him.

Also, Birch Creek is a completely dry village, meaning that the sale, importation and possession of alcohol is illegal. It's interesting that he had a few drinks first, though he may live outside of the village itself. Fort Yukon on the other hand has a municipally operated liquor store. It's amazing to me that there are still places in this country where even the mere possession of alcohol is illegal.

“This gentleman, it’s actually pretty impressive that he walked that far, being that he’s 52 years old.”
Jesus, when did 52 become infirm? My world is full of 52 year old men and women that can out-everything me (39) any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
I love his reasoning though. "My cousin did it so I thought I'd see if I could."
Having actually lived in a Alaska I can say that the most ridiculous thing, by Alaskan standards, is that he walked out with just a .22.

They suggest that 52-years old is somehow, well, old. Rubbish...

...He said his last drink kind of gave him that urge, that oomph.”
I know just what he means!

wow!
if he approaches everything like he did this little after-dinner walk (gee, i wonder if i could squat 800 pounds today?? well let's just give it a try) then he sounds like the kind of guy who could operate a starting strength gym...
Birch Creek Starting Strength --- has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? :-)
he's a man's man!
