Lost 115+lbs at age 48. Started Stronglifts 5x5. Gained 20lbs back in 6months.
Would like my squat checked out. TY

Are you trying to follow the starting strength squat model?

Congrats on dropping the tonnage. You need to get Rip's books and DVD if you're attempting to squat low-bar the way Rip teaches because you're not doing a low bar squat... your grip should be thumbless... your depth isn't there... your heels are moving around a bit in those squishy shoes.

    I second Larry T's observations.

Thanks for the observations. Yes, I watch a couple of Rip's Youtube videos and trying to learn form that. I do know that It should be thumbless, it's just a habit to grab the bar. I will work on that and getting deeper, maybe drop back on the weight. As far as the shoes, I use the flattest pair I have. Thanks again, gives me things to work on!

Good job on losing the weight, and getting under the bar, and for seeking advice on your form. You definitely need to get a copy of Starting Strength though. You are way off optimal at the moment.

While you're waiting for SS to arrive, watch the videos here and compare to how you're squatting at the moment: http://startingstrength.com/resource...ml#post1115698

    Keep us posted.

I'd focus on the big issues (depth, mechanics) tbh, hand placement/grip can be changed later.

Here is the squat portion of the DVD. Rip was nice enough to throw it up on the Youtubes:

edit: which is exactly what DH linked.

Thanks for feedback, gives me something to work on. I will go lighter and work on some things.
