    Default My experience with Clomid

I'm 49 & have been training for a lot of years--the last several with proper lifts & programming. I first had my test level measured at age 40. It was about 300 and has been there since. I've never wanted to do test shots because I don't want my body to stop producing it. I read quite a bit about Clomid being used to encourage(or trick?) the body to produce more & decided to give it a try. After doing extensive bloodwork, my doctor(a TRT specialist) put me on 50 mg every other day along with DHEA, Niacin, Vitamin D, and some other supplements I don't have in front of me. My total/free test levels have gone from 297/9.2 on 10/12/2015 to 676/19.8 on 12/9/2015. The only negative is my IGF-1 went from 161 to 104, which is to be expected when using Clomid. My squat didn't double, but I do feel like I have more energy and haven't missed any lifts. The plan is to stop the Clomid at the six-month mark and see if the test stays over 500/15 and the IGF-1 comes back up(hopefully to over 200).

I haven't seen many posts about this, so I thought I'd share.

Thanks for the information. I am also at the low end of the scale and have been considering alternatives.

Sure wish there were more resposes to this, because I'm very curious about Clomid. Currently injecting 1ml T-Cyp weekly with good results, however, I would favor homegrown T if possible. Somehow, tricking the body to make more testosterone seems less "dependent", even though its more of a shift in dependency to a stimulant. No more needles, bigger balls may be a good trade for Clomid side effects.

I am have some understanding of Clomid and Nolvadex but would like to know more as well...more response from those who have practical experience with it.

    T-Cyp Weekly

I question if those with "Low T" can get completely away from not taking T-Cyp on a weekly basis.

That based on some of the research by...

    Dr Jon Crisler, D.O.

Crisler area of expertise is in "Low T".

Some of Crisler's research has shown that hCG injections may increase natural production.

It how well hCG works is dependent on how low your reading is.

An update to the Crisler HCG protocol
An update to the Crisler HCG protocol

This article indicates that Testerone injection need to be combined with hCG injections.

"Testosterone cypionate, the cypionate ester provides a 5-8 day half-life, depending upon the specific metabolism, activity level, and overall health of the patient. It is now well-established that appropriate TRT using IM injections must be dosed at weekly intervals, in order to avoid seating the patient on a hormonal, and emotional, roller coaster."

"Adding in some HCG toward the end of the weekly “cycle” compensates for the drop in serum androgen levels by the half-life of the cypionate ester. Certainly the body thrives on regularity, and supplementing the TRT with endogenous testosterone production at just the right time..."

    Another Alternative

Since the cypionate's half life is around 8 days, breaking it up into two weekly injections would help.

However, that is literally a "Pain in the ass".

    My T-Level

I just had my level measured. It low.

I am now having to "discuss" doing something about it with the doctors.

Ironically, I know as much or more from my research than the physician. The physician was clueless about Clomid, Nolvadex and hCG.

In our "discussion" he clarified to me that he is a "God" (not "The God", but a God) and dismissed the information that I presented and discussed with him since he did NOT have any knowledge about it.

My parting shot was a "God is omniscient"; which you are not.

I went to an anti-aging/TRT specialist, not my GP, for this. He initially wanted to start me on Test injections, but I told him I didn't want to. He said no problem, let's try the Clomid; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I think finding a doctor with the right experience, and the right attitude is important for this stuff.

    Find a good urologist.

I had that good fortune after being completely whacked from 2 meets less than 8 weeks apart in the 4th quarter of 2013 and feeling like I had been dragged behind a truck. I thought it was either low T or overtraining. He doubted the former given my meet totals, and lo and behold, the tests came in at 330 at age 63. I made it clear that I WAS NOT trying to skirt the rules of my federation to go for better totals at the outset and he laughed having had others trying to do just that.

I wish you good luck in your search. If you have trouble, send me a PM. He's in Torrance, CA, but you are almost certain to find one near you.

I found this book to be an educational read on the subject of testosterone:

    Urologist

Mark, Glad to hear you found someone who has helped you.

However, I seriously doubt that any physician in any field has much knowledge in this area.

The podcast and information posted on this site provide some great information.

They more bluntly state that "the average endocrinologist is a quack" in this area.

Some of the information they state in their podcast falls in line with Dr Jon Crisler's. My previous post has an article by Crisler.

    Finding One

The problem is finding a qualified physician.

It a bit of an "Easter Egg Hunt". They are out there but hard to find.

    starting strength coach development program
I started taking Clomid in 2011. Initially my level went from 207 to mid 500's, which was a very good result. Over the years my level seems to have settled in the mid 300's, still much better than 207.

My doctor, who happens to be an Osteopath, is considered an out of the box thinker by my other physician who wouldn't give me a recommendation on TRT based on the fact that I had initiated this treatment with the other doctor.

I think it played a big part in breaking me out of depression, helped get me back into music, etc. It also made training more fun though didn't turn me into a beast or anything.

I went to the Low T Center once, on a whim, because I had a coupon. They had a PA or something there who had never heard of Clomid. They basically do weekly or bi weekly Test injections, and that's it. I didn't do any business there.
