    Height: 5'7"
    Weight: 175 (starting)
    Age: 36
    Location: Indianapolis
Life: Husband, father of 2 rambunctious boys ages 6 & 2.5, desk job but travel for work 3 days per week via car and/or plane
    Lift at: YMCA
    Status: weak

Background: active growing up, exercised regularly while in the National Guard, lifted for ~4 months doing the chest/tris,back/bis,legs mix back in 2003-4 with limited success; completed the couch to 5k program in 2009 & ran regularly until 2012 and a 10 miler then life got in the way; did Insanity for 3 weeks 2 years ago, otherwise sedentary.

Realized my oldest son is getting bigger and if I don't do something now I won't be able to pick him up a lot sooner than I'd like. Time to get strong.

I've completed 6 workouts and will post those results next, then log going forward.

Welcome, mackus. It seems that for fathers, a big driver of Starting Strength is related to kids and family - getting strong to be an example or to be able to play energetically with our kids. I have a 15 and a 13 year old and wanted to be a model for them with my garage gym. My 15 year old has picked up my habit and is squatting, pressing and deadlifting. Also, my boys were getting bigger and stronger and at 152lbs I didn't feel strong next to them. Now at 182, I know they will eventually (soon) be stronger than me (and I am cheering for them to be) but it will be farther in the future than it would have been.

Thanks mkabert, a longer term goal is to set a good example for health and training to achieve a goal.

I'm with you there - trying to stay ahead of my kids also. May be futile long term, but if/when they get stronger than me I'll be a happy for them! My 12 year old son can already out-swim me. Also, they kids will be proud of a strong daddy.

    Good luck!

Restart-life happened and I stopped the program for the past 2.5 months. Back at it this week! Eating as much as I can but having trouble hitting 3500 calories without eating junk food.

I hope than the disruption was not damaging to health or family.

Two things will help your consistency. First, go see a coach. If you are within 1,000 miles of a certified and credentialed Starting Strength Coach one visit will help you immensely. Second, when you see the results of consistency nothing will stop you.

I trained with a SSC 1 time right before I ended up stopping the program and learned a ton! She lives ~2 hours away and I'm trying to get back over there asap.
