Does Lifting Cause High Blood Pressure - Starting Strength Radio Clips
-
As a former hypertensive, weak, 59 year old human being having to take BP medicine because my readings were 160+/90+ I can say, that, after 2 years of lifting I'm not only a lot stronger, I feel a lot healthier and have the body of an athlete instead of a flabby mass of flesh. Incidentally I no longer need the meds, my BP after a heavy squat session today is a perfectly normal123/73.
BP damage is due to long term elevated pressure, not intermittent spikes. One day I might drop down dead from an intermittent spike if there is a weakness in the walls of my circulatory system, but I could just as easily get that spike as a result of going to the toilet, or pushing/lifting something heavy-both these situations are helped by being stronger and more healthy in the first place.
