I have come to the realization that I am not willing to gain the body weight necessary to reach maximum strength. My question is: Is it still advantageous to train with barbells, doing the compound lifts, even if I don't reach my full strength potential?

Are there still advantages to doing the lifts?

I'm more curious what's holding you back. Forget about maximum strength for a minute, why not gain 20 pounds and see where that gets you?

He has an eating disorder, Matt. We saw this quite some time ago. Can't be helped.

This caused me to read back through your posts, Matt. You may want to see someone because your obsession with diet is abnormal for a healthy (other than being significantly underweight) 23 year old.
Someone has gotta get you to eat, and Rip tried least 5 times.
    Best of luck to you.

    To quote Jim Wendler:

"Again, what you consume has to be congruent with
your goals. If you want to get stronger and you eat like a bird, you now
    have proof of your self-sabotage."

If you're gonna go to work building up your body, materials for the project (protein) and a budget for the workers (carbs) will be needed in abundance.

And a little grease for the building authorities greatly speeds things up!
