Hey Mark, On your last podcast you had mentioned a guys numbers were pretty low for his height and weight to not be getting off NLP and I was just curious what your thoughts were on a guy who is 6’2 280 lbs approx 30% body fat. I was stalling out at around 230x5 bench 165x5 press 350x5 squat and 410x5 deadlift and after switching over to 4 day split and hearing your podcast comments I’d like to know if you think those numbers are low and if I should still be on the NLP Instead of moving to intermediate. Thanks

How old are you? And why did I have to ask you that?

The First Three Questions | Mark Rippetoe

Make sure these are answered correctly, and continue with your NLP.

I'd add that if you apply the three questions to your training and don't find anything that can be improved, don't bang your head against the wall, especially if the 4 day stuff works where the LP stopped working.

Can you do the 4 day split, 3 days per week or is it not enough stress? For example

Monday - bench intensity, press volume
Wednesday - deadlift intensity, squat volume
Friday - press intensity, bench volume

Monday - squat intensity, volume pull
Wednesday - bench intensity, press volume
Friday - deadlift intensity, squat volume

And so on in this order. Is this a good option to make solid progress or is the stress too spread out? Thanks

I've seen a number of SSCs report running a 4 day split on a 3 day per week schedule like that with clients successfully. I've thought about doing it myself eventually.

This seems applicable to almost every question on this forum.
