Bodybuilding prep + Olympic lifting (muscle growth)
Hi,
I wanted to ask you if Olympic lifting has a negative effect on muscle growth in this particular circumstance. I am not buying what people are saying out there. There's mixed opinions and several different studies.
I am competing in a bodybuilding competition , coming from a functional fitness background . So I do all Olympic lifts, power lifts, gymnastics, metabolic conditioning. I don't want to lose my power, speed, flexibility etc during my 16 week(3 weeks to go) prep for this bodybuilding competition , so I include at least my Olympic lifting to a reduced capacity as I deplete the body , mostly for safety. I think it can help with a denser, leaner look.
Do you think it will hinder muscle growth in any way?
Also do you have an affiliate in Canada to begin the process of becoming a Starting Strength Coach?
Thank you

Olympic lifting doesn't have an adverse effect on hypertrophy. Gymnastics, metabolic conditioning, and Fran does. And the fact that you think bodybuilding is about "depletion" is the most important problem. Did Ronnie Coleman look "depleted" to you?

Thanks for the reply! I Appreciate it. Coleman did lift heavy right to the end. Aside from the anabolics, he was damn strong regardless. Depleted was used loosely. Thanks again!

I don't think it was used loosely. Bodybuilders worry far more about low bodyfat than big muscles. It's easier to cut than to get big and strong.

Holy shit. I saw that big wriggling nightcrawler "functional fitness" there and thought you were going to bite. Restraint, Rip. Kudos.
