Well, figured I should make a log. My name's Matt and I'm still a beginner when it comes to weightlifting. I think I'm still a novice, but not entirely sure. A while ago my friend got me started on 5/3/1 and I've done 3 cycles of that, but I feel like I was making gains above the program. Now that I'm back home from college I can really focus on recovery and taking advantage of the fact that I'm seeing novice level gains. I'm doing Starting Strength and plan on riding that out until increasing recovery efforts just won't help any more. I'm starting with lower weights than I think I can do in the hope that it'll prove for bigger gains over the long run. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

    Lifts(as of 5/1/10)
    Squat 1rm: 310
    Bench Press 1rm: 215
    Deadlift 1rm: 410
    Press 1rm: 140
    Power Clean 1rm: 190

    Stats
    Height 5'7 or so
    Weight 180 lbs or so

    5/5/10

    Squat
    3x5x260

    Bench
    3x5x175

    Deadlift
    1x5x345

First day on Starting Strength and everything went pretty well. The lifts were challenging but I definitely kept some in the tank on everything. I won't be able to do the next workout til probably Monday due to the fact I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow. I plan to sit around, be lazy, and drink gallons of milk.

    5/8/10

    Squat
    3x5x270

    Press
    3x5x100

    Power Clean
    5x3x165

Got my wisdom teeth taken out on Thursday. The doc must have done a good job cause there's like no pain. It's just kinda annoying not being able to eat a shitton. I've gone through so many eggs and so much milk its ridiculous. Hit all the numbers I wanted to even though my diet and recovery have been poor because of the surgery.

    5/10/10

    Squat
    3x5x280

    Bench Press
    3x5x180

    Deadlift
    1x5x355

Everything felt really good. Had a ridiculously obnoxious back pump after squatting and deadlifting, but it's all good.

    5/12/10

    Squat
    3x5x290

    Press
    3x5x110

    Power Clean
    5x3x175

    Dips
    BWx8

    Chinups
    BWx8

Everything felt pretty good. Was glad I hit the 10 pound increase on Press and Power Clean, but it's only going to be 5 next time. The squat is coming along nicely. Threw in the dips and chins to work on my upper body. They were really easy but I don't want to affect my main lifts so I'm going to add these very very slowly

Nice work, we have similar height/weight, can you tell me how old you are? Just for comparison for recovery and such. I'm 28.

Do you plan to increase your squat by 10 for a while?

I'm 18 and don't turn 19 for another couple or months or so. Right now, my diet and rest are pretty dialed in so I feel like I can increase the squats by 10 per workout for at least another 50-60 pounds, hopefully more. Thanks for the interest

    5/17/10

    Squat
    3x5x300

    Bench
    3x5x190

    Deadlift
    1x5x365

    Dips
    BWx8

    Chinups
    BWx8

Happy I got everything today. Squat felt heavy but doable. Bench was still relatively easy. Deadlift was tougher than before, but I feel like I can probably get to about 390 or so before I have trouble. Bodyweight is pretty much the same as 2 weeks ago.
