I just went into my room and put some plates on the bar. My problem is I can bring the chest up and squeeze, but in that bent over position I can't get the feeling of squeezing my lumbar while bent over. I must be stupid or something.

I think you need someone yelling at you loud enough to squeeze the damn thing. It worked with the very few people I've trained. It's really a question of squeezing the damn thing, and when you think it's squeezed enough, squeeze it a little more. Someone yelling at you makes it easier. Since I didn't have the luxury of having someone yelling at me when I learned it, it is in fact possible to learn the deadlift without it.

Practice it a little today and then a little more tomorrow. You'll get it, don't worry.

Just in case you don't understand why it's hard to extend the lumbar while bent over: in that position, your hamstrings are pulling quite hard at the pelvis, making the back round, and the spinal erectors are pulling in the opposite direction.

Thanks man, I'll try this everyday this week till I dead next week.

One question again. Can you guys see it in the videos when someone is squeezing their lumbars? If yes, what clothing should I wear in the video and what lighting/cam angle should I use to show this?

I usually watch my training buddy from the side when he's deadlifting. It's usually easy to figure it out, specially if the person isn't very fat.

No special clothing or lighting. Please do not film yourself naked from the back. Just making sure you don't do that.

As long as there's contrast with the background, it's cool.

    Don't mention it.
