Good idea, Dana. That takes me back almost 20 years. It was when I very first started working out in 1995. I weighed about 115 pounds (seriously). A buddy of mine and I started lifting together, and we went down to some holistic type store to get some supplements. The old lady there gave us some recipe for mixing in the bath to deal with lactic acid. I pretty much ignored it, but my buddy tried it. I don't know if he mixed something wrong, or this lady was just evil, but he said the moment his nuts touched the water, the burning was so excruciating, that was all he could take. Yeah, good old epsom salt would have been better, haha.

Matt told me this part sucks, but at the end of it, I would be in the best shape of my life.

Did these with my wife. Cool. I'm still out of shape.
With your WIFE? Are you telling me she is showing some interest now, Steve?

I forgot to ask, did she go to your competition?

She's always been interested in "fitness". Yeah, she's hot. It's the powerlifting that turns her off. She showed up with my son and daughter AFTER my first squat (the only good lift), and stayed through my 2nd bench. She was pretty pissed that it cost her $30 for the 3 of them to get in the door! Matt said that my NASA meet looked like the Rotary Club, haha!

I can't believe that I didn't mention this. Tuesday night's training took a lot longer than usual, because I taught my wife to deadlift that night. I don't know if I'll ever get her to squat with a bar on her back, but she was very open to deadlifting. I'll keep encouraging her to do it too. We started with 65 pounds.

I love working out in the garage. I don't like it when it's freezing cold, but it's no big deal when I just layer. That way I'm able to encourage my wife to join me. Before deadlifting Tuesday, I went to my local farm supply and bought two 4x6 3/4" mats for my garage to replace the little 1/4" mat I have out there. I also found out that I can get 45's at Walmart.com for $50 and have them delivered to my local store for free. They're not calibrated Troy's, but they will do. I'm waiting a bit to get those. Eventually I want to get a B&R bar too. You may know that I have a Rogue R-2 stand and bench, which I absolutely love.

I started lifting at home this week, because I'm using sub-maximal weight, and I'm setting up bands there. The goal is to get some chains, and my local gym may even have them by Monday. That doesn't support my lifting at home though.

This is turning into a long post. So I hear it's pretty expensive to buy chains at home depot or whatever, and I've had no luck on Craigslist so far. So I've been looking online. I don't really know anything about them, but when I look at Rogue or Elite FTS, each set is only around 20 pounds....is that right??

Here's where I've been looking if anyone has any input:

We got some at a local hardware/supply store. We brought in a scale and weighted out 40lbs and got (I think) 4 lengths. They weren't that expensive. if you buy them online, I'd imagine they would cost a fortune to ship.

That is all very cool and good news, Steve. As the husband of a gal who loves me lifting but HATES lifting herself, I can help you out with a little advice. Let her do what she seems to like. Don't push anything. As her deads grow and she start to see/feel a bit of difference in her body, then perhaps she'll ask for a little extra. Thats one of the reasons my wife does so few movements. Just a TBDL, squat, CG bench (she loves benching!), push press and thats about it.

Just remember Steve, if you do this, weigh them the same way youd weigh a cat.

It's cool that at least she does lift a little bit with you. My wife WILL NOT lift with me. :-)

The new programming looks good, and he is going to get you in shape for sure. I hope the next couple of months go well for you.

What did you use to attach them to the bar?

Good advice, coach! I almost pushed too much on the squatting. She started to get the impression that I felt like HER workouts were meaningless without squatting, and I don't want to give her that impression! I always have to be careful not to sound condescending. That's a lesson well learned. Today I have to lift at the gym, because I need heavy dumbbells, but I'll come home for the GPP circuit, because that's definitely something we like to do together. I'm going to miss the Prowler though, because there's a couple inches of ice and slush on the road today..

Thanks, buddy. I'll never forget that :-)

I think I'm getting leaner without even trying now. I'm going to have to eat a lot more to get to SHW!!

We bought 2 smaller/shorter length chains (to loop around), and 2 pretty nice sized carabiners. Slide the caribiner through the links of the big chain (so it doesn't slide around), and then also use it to connect the two ends of the little chain. The little chain then hooks around the bar, and can be secured in place with a collar (if you need it - it doesn't really move even without the collar). Here is a really terrible picture from a still shot of one of my videos where the chain was in the background, so you can at least kind of see what I mean.
