I set 11 National records and then lost them. I got dqed because I heard the commands coming from the wrong platform, which were right next to each other. On the bench we were facing away from the judges. After bench I was a guest lifter and so none of my lifts counted. I did 342 squat, 190 bench, 363 deadlift. I signed up for IPL Masters World Cup yesterday in Port Aransas, TX on March 22, 2025. I hope since it is for masters only they don't have that rap crap blasting. It had my hearing aids blaring. Both head judges were young women with high pitched voices and I heard start, but it came from platform 2, not 1. In the USAPL, if you are hearing impaired, the head judge stands right in front of you and gives only hand commands. I had fun because 13 friends and 2 relatives were there. The meet ended at 6:30 Sunday and at 7 pm I was driving back to TX. Did some squats this morning and deadlifts. Thursday wll be a real workout

My knees are really killing me today from all the driving and the meet. A guy from Midland, TX was there and he is a 17 times world champion in 3 different weight classes. He told me he had to wear wraps to until last year and he got the jell knee injections. I am waiting for the doctors office to call me when the jell arrives. I hate wearing wraps but until I can get something better, I have to wear them. I shall see what the jell does for me. C0B0E57F-E974-4194-A6D7-833B65A0224A_1_201_a.jpg Me and Joe Sullivan. He holds the 220 class record at 851 pounds squat.

Sorry to hear (pun not intended) that! Especially with National records at stake.
Same thing happened to me before at Nationals. Loud music, a guy on the microphone talking, 2 platforms going and I got the wrong start command. I now tell the judges I'm hard of hearing and to yell the commands.

I told the referees about 20 times I wear hearing aids and can't hear. That's alright, I know I made the lifts and you can watch the video on youtube and clearly see the head judges hand move to his face before I racked the weight on squats. I am headed to Port Aransas Texas March 22, 2025 for the IPL Masters Cup. I will tell them I am deaf!

I will only compete in Masters competition from now on. Too old to have to wait on young guns to lift. I had to lift during my normal nap time. It was fun, just too much noise and lifters.

Today was a hard workout for me. I made sure every rep was well past competition depth. With my knees it was very difficult. The doctor told me to stay about 3 inches above parallel but I want to do really well at my next meet. If you don't train for depth, especially at my age, you can't do it in competition. I got several compliments from the young guns. Also today was the first real training day in a while. I am hoping to get back to at least 5 sets of 3 with working set. With my heart at 51% function and lungs at 40%, it makes it rather difficult. If it was easy everyone would be powerlifting!
