    Default Press 2.0 clarification

    Hi guys,

Ive done a search and read the articles and excerpts from the latest book version.

I just would like to confirm my understanding as I've only ever done the press as per the previous version of the books aka press 1.0.

In press 2.0, each rep starts from the bottom, so up, down and pause. You don't hold it at the top at all and you breathe at the bottom?

    Is that correct?

    Thanks

    Yes that is correct.

And that is how I used to do it, and still do for the most part. However, now that presses are getting heavy, I find that I am breathing at the top of the 3rd and 4th reps, as it is easier to get air in. So the first two or three sets are all normal, while on the 4th and 5th set I breathe at the top (on reps 3&4), lower the bar, whip the hips, and press. It seems to me that I get better breaths this way.

I consider that crappy pressing form.

I do too, sort of, but probably for different reasons than you do.

What are the reasons you consider it crappy?

I believe in doing a strict press with no body motion, all that flopping around is cheating IMHO.

well for someone starting lifting weight, it's the more complicated way to begin pressing. Just push the damn bar over your head is all you need to do.

That's not a very constructive opinion to bring to a thread where someone is trying to learn and understand this particular version of the lift.
