That depends very much on the bar. Olympic bars are much more bendy than powerlifting bars. The higher quality (like Eleiko) powerlifting bars hardly bend until you put 250-300kg on them (550-660 lbs), while many Olympic bars, even quality ones, may bend with as little as 150kg (330 lbs). Maybe even less for really cheap nasty ones.
Rule of thumb, good PL bars are very stiff, good OL bars quite flexible. BUT ... good bars of both kinds straighten out again afterwards while cheap bars remain bent.

Saw an astonishing example of genetics today.
This cute little asian girl (probably 5 foot 40kg), was being taught how to do deadlift for the first time by one of the trainers. He started her off using the 5kg practise plates (30kg) as per normal. I stopped paying attention while i was warming up for my own deadlifts, untill the trainer came over and got two 20kg plates. Can't be for her I though, nobody pulls 60kg 1st time at her size. Wrong, textbook deadlift, fast and smooth. She proceeded to do the same at 65, and 70, and only slowed down when she got to 75kg, which was apparently within 5kg of 2xBW.
For some reason the more weight that went on the bar the sexier she got. Should ask her out, our kids might be short-asses but hopefully they'll get crazy strong genes (at least from their mother).

I was so peeved that I didn't have my camera on me (had planned to film my own set but left it at home). Will definitely try and get some pics (surreptitiously) if i see her again.
I wasn't the only one who noticed, only time i've ever seen all the trainers in the room wander over to watch one person lift.
