Oh for fuck sake. There's a guy doing a dumbbell lateral raises, standing oblique crunches, sit-up circuit on the deadlift platform. Wasting the valuable real-estate doing bullshit.

I would never say that to her face and discourage her. Good for her for trying. I hope she finds a coach that doesn't waste her time and money.

I get so bummed when I see someone working their ass off with the shitty trainers at my gym.

Even better. A strong back... He's got 365 with a bowed lumbar and he's worried about patelLas. He's going to throw his back out farting.

Makes me want to reply with a link to Richard Hawthorne repping 610 lbs at 2/3 of this guy's weight.

Also, unrelated sighting the other day at NYSC. I walk in and see about 10 women running down the stairs, all in a line, holding little pink and red dumbbells over their heads. The NYSC I go to is 3 stories, so they were running from the top level (cardio machines) to the middle level (cardio machines) to the bottom level (500 square foot weight room FML). As I walk down the stairs, I hear a dickhead trainer yell from somewhere upstairs "I can see you ALL!!!!"

And then some guy was using the only squat rack to do hack squats for 20 minutes.
I thought this was the NYSC I work at until you said the inadequate weight room was on the first floor instead of the 3rd floor.

Yes this has been my approach so far.

If that stops working, I'll definitely try this and report back.

That's what frustrates me too. I used to lift at a fantastic gym in Austin (GrassIron) that to a large degrees specialized in training normal people (ie not athletes), esp. middle aged women. I've seen what works and makes sense, and it sure as hell isn't endless calf raises and pointless bizarre 'core' exercises. It's mostly heavy lifting in the big 3 with HIIT.

It's ok. He says his lumbar spine is genetically rounded.
