Mark, I know you see your share of stupidity on a daily basis, enough to not even waste your time anymore...

but if you need a serious bout of laughter, actually read and listen to this guys argument at least for 5 minutes. it reaches a level of stupidity one can hardly imagine.

Link to bizarre web lecture removed. Judging by the number of times I've been sent this link over the past two days, you already know where it is.

This is the 4th time I've had this thing submitted as a thread. I'm not going to link to it, because that's all the guy wants. So, my comment will be merely, why does this merit a response? Every second spent listening to this drivel is a second that could have been spent watching Gianna Michaels.

Someone needs to do a parody video where you take a toothpick to represent the fragile and delicate neck, and break it with the massively heavy pen representing the barbell. Then you needs to explain that if someone is stupid enough to balance a barbell on his neck, or use such a heavy weight that he might fall over, he deserves to get his neck broken. Of course you’ll also have to explain that using a weight that might be too heavy is OK if you’ve got five people spotting you, like at a competition.

Most importantly, if someone makes this parody video, you will have to repeat the above mentioned information over and over again so that you stretches two minutes of information into 15 minutes. Of course, you’ll have to explain that you only have two minutes of information, but you want to sound like your giving 15 minutes of incredibly important information that not a second can be missed.

In a very, very, wrong way, the video in the following thread shows that barbell squats are pretty damn safe.

I think this might be one of the best responses I've ever read...

Actually, I think it demonstrates that the spine is pretty damn tough. On the other hand, if all I knew about squats was from that video, I would never ever do a squat. Every time I see one of those kids land on that bench with a thud, I shudder.

That is precisely my point. If those kinds can perform those abominations onto the Barbell Gods and still walk, I'm pretty sure I'm ok with doing them with correct technique.

It's worth remembering that unlike the squat, the bench press does ACTUALLY KILL PEOPLE. But rather than point out a genuine safety hazard (ie, the suicide grip), he goes after the squat.

    Why?

I think he's at war with barbells. He's going after the squat to sell the machine that he denies endorsing at the start of the video. But obviously there's no malice involved.

If you're a barbell fan with too much time on your hand (test: do you post to End and Pieces more than twice a week?), you could have some fun with no malice involved too.

Find a forum, any forum, review the gosh-darned machine, and mention that it chopped your thumb/dick/granma's foot off.

Because obviously, dishonest reviews are fair game for the manufacturers.

I just want him to explain this: How come the same stress that makes your legs strong (because the squat is obviously a leg exercise) is incapable of making anything else strong. I mean, it is obviously putting a strain on the back, but according to him the body can't adapt to this.

His next article: how marathon running is the second worst exercise ever, with a picture of some running coach next to an untrained individual saying "let's make this poor sap run 26 miles and see what happens!"
