    Default October Iron Fest Announcement

It is already on the front page and in the Events section, but I figured I would announce it here, too. Seven Starting Strength Coaches in the US and Canada are holding strengthlifting meets at their respective gyms on Saturday, October 25.

There will be winners for each local venue, but we will also pool the results from each meet and announce an overall winner. The best male and female lifter from the combined results will win a free spot to a Starting Strength Seminar.

Google Map with links to the sign-ups and the gyms involved

    Check out the rules, too

    Come out and lift.

This looks awesome. I have a question about the rules for the press.

Any halt in the upward motion of the bar, identified as the part of the bar between the hands,
constitutes a missed attempt, as does any change in the position of the feet against the floor
during the attempt, any bending of the knees, any active plantar flexion of the ankles, or
excessive backward lean of the torso as identified by...
    Is the press 2.0 allowed?

Absolutely. It is very difficult for most people to lay back far enough to where they would run afoul of the rules. You can move your hips all you like.

Nice to see the event referred to as a "strengthlifting meet". Hope one day the press would be replaced by the clean and press.

Best wishes to Tom and rest of the the people involved.

Am I being dense? Where's the registration/sign-up? When I click "locations & sign-up," I just get a Google Maps page with the locations.

Brilliant idea. This strikes me as a potentially disruptive innovation in the competitive lifting market.

    I'm incredibly excited.

Folks: even if you don't consider yourself "strong", compete in this. Help build the community.

Unless you're like me and sometimes turn it into a standing bench press (without the bench).

Well, then you would probably get red lights.
