    This.

I have shed 5 lbs of body weight, and my squat seems to keep going up.

I know you love literature so here goes.
    To Trudge:

William: Oi sir, what are you doing?

Chaucer: Uh... trudging. You know, trudging?
    [pause]
Chaucer: To trudge: the slow, weary, depressing yet determined walk of a man who has nothing left in life except the impulse to simply soldier on.

    William: Uhhh... were you robbed?

Chaucer: [laughs] Funny really, yes, but at the same time a huge resounding no. It's more of an... involuntary vow of poverty... really.

I've lost ~8lbs in a few weeks and my squat is still where it was, I just do less volume. My presses have weakened a bit, but I think that's just a not eating enough issue.

He's not doing it wrong. Carnivaur isn't coming off a bulk like the rest of you guys since he's been cutting for a while. This means the easy weight losses (water, less food in gut, glycogen etc) that occur immediately upon commencing a diet aren't there for him. The real fat losses that happen after the quick initial weight loss can easily involve strength loss.

40 lbs off a 400 lb squat is a lot of strength loss.
