    Default Too much layback?

    Hey Rip,

Had a great day of pressing yesterday. Went in hoping for a double at 195# (5# under previous 1RM) and, as you'll see, it turned out I was grossly underestimating how much strength I've gained since that 1RM in late September. I'm pretty sure I'm good, but I wanted to get your opinion on the amount of layback I'm getting in these presses. Not sure if it's relevant, but I'm 5'6" and perpetually just under or just over 200#. Thanks!

These are very good examples of the Olympic press that Suggs and Starr deal with on this website. Good knee control, layback is perfect. Nice job. Everybody else, MEMORIZE THIS TECHNIQUE.

Also a good job cutting the videos to a sensible length. It's nice not to see, "Set begins at 2:07."

That is beautiful. I hate some huge layback but that is between a lean and a big lay in my opinion. Fluid, beautifully fluid. I need a training partner that attacks a bar like that. Kind of like Captain Caveman. Can we get a sticky on those?
