Don't overthink the shoulder width thing -- it's not meant to be an exact guidline. If 21 to 22" works for you, run with it.
Hi all,
This may seem a little pedantic, but how do you define "shoulder width" for a squat stance? Should the INSIDES or OUTSIDES of your heels be at shoulder width to define the stance?
My shoulder width is ~25"; it seems awfully wide if I put the insides of my heels 25" apart. As it is, I now squat with about a 21" or 22" width between the insides of my heels, and even that looks wide, but it seems to be where my feet want to naturally go for low-bar squats. I have long legs/short torso, and find that if I come in too narrow, I start to fight against my own body proportions.
I bring up all this picky stuff after watching the Zach video. His stance looks kinda narrow to me; I think it would jackknife me at heavy weights were I to try it.
Thanks board!

SS defines it as outside of the heels in line with outside of the shoulders.
