If you didn't know, the IPF raw cup is currently happening. Anyhow, I like to google the technique of the top guys in the world and I stumbled into this:

At the first front view I thought he was warming up doing front squats.

Goes to show you don't have to be swole to be strong.

Strong dude. That 305kg rack pull was no joke, nor were the two finger pullups. I don't think I've ever seen someone squat like that. My wrists and shoulders hurt just watching it. If only my Spanish were better.

Me too. Never seen anyone back squat with their elbows in front of their torso like that. Wiggidy wack.

I don't know Spanish either. Good thing AC/DC translates universally.

Interesting seeing that; I was quite literally thinking about what it would be like to squat with a grip like that recently, whether it'd help remove stress from the elbows and what it'd do to upper back tightness etc.

Very weird. I just tried it and with an empty bar it was putting huge pressure on my hands and elbows and the bar felt like it was going to slide off any second.

But hey, you can't really say it's no good if it's working for him, he looks fairly strong. Until he has to get an elbow surgery or something I say go for it.

Note he uses a high bar position.

I usually have this, "if it works for you" kind of attitude. But with this, I am happy to say, this is fucked.

He looks like he is actively hunching his upper & mid back. I can see the point of this in deadlifts, but round back squats? The back can be held in extension very easily once you get it set, its just dumb to do anything else. This guys squat is LOW in comparison to his deadlift, so its not like he getting some weird advantage from it. He would benefit greatly from improving his technique.
