Quick Bio: I'm a brazilian jiu jitsu addict (hense the sweaty men part) and I'm finally starting to lift again. I started lifting in July 2010 right before I start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but then quit when I started training. I'm down from 190 to 165 (yay!) since Aug 2010. Still got another 10 lbs till my goal weight. I've been stuck as the same 5 pounds for a while and realized I needed to start lifting to be able to get my weight to keep going down. Anyway, I'm pretty much just a girl that loves sports, lifting and training hard. I'm 5'5'', larger frame and am at 165 right now with my goal weight being around 150-155 and want to compete in the 150ish weight classes for jiu jitsu.

Aren't you in Boston? You can't live in my home town and root for the Lakers.

Wednesday and Saturdays are my normally lifting days. However, I've barely been able to train this week, and haven't lifted at all to do being busy with homework. I need to get a couple papers out of the way then life should be slowing down enough that I can train and lift. If not, my heart will be broken </3....

Took a week off because of an insane amount of homework. Barely trained jiu jitsu. Anyway, wednesday = A day....

    10 minute jog @ 5.5mph
    30 second sprint @ 10 mph

    (weight x reps)
    Squat
    45x5
    45x5
    55x5
    75x3
    85x2
    100x5
    100x5
100x5<---stuck here for a while, having trouble maintaining proper form during all reps.

    Bench
    45x5
    45x5
    50x5
    55x3
    60x2
    70x5
    70x5
70x5<----ready for an increase next week.

    Dead lifts
    45x5
    45x5
    65x5
    75x3
    85x2
    105x5

    Thoughts:
~A huge plus of SS is that it's quick. I am usually in and out of a gym in about an hour and half.
~Have a goal! Squatting 135 by the end of summer/sometime this year. I want to be able to load up the bar with the big 45 plates, go ATG and put some of those boys to shame
~Which then means by dead lifting goal should be more than 135.....

First B Day! (Squat, Press, Power Clean). Watched the videos that Rip did on them before heading out the gym. Most of today was just figuring out the moves and finding out how hard they really are. I was most surprised by how tough the press was. I thought that because of my bench I would be able to do more than what I did, but my numbers were significantly less because (as I came to realize) it uses a completely different set of muscles. The squat used to be my favorite but I think my new favorite is now the power clean. I'm really going to be feeling those tomorrow.

    Warm Up
    ~Jog at 5 mph for 10 minutes
    ~Walk at 3.5 for 5 minutes

    Stretch

    (rep-weight)
    Squat
    5-45
    5-45
    5-60
    3-75
    2-85
    5-100
    5-100
    5-100
~Still heavy, still want to work on form but getting there. One more week at most then moving up in weight.

Press (first time-trying to get the technique down)
    5-45
    5-45
    5-50
    3-45
    2-45
    5-55
    5-55
    5-55
~Felt like the right weight, heavy and harder to lift.

Power Clean (warm up with just the bar, getting technique down)
    5-45
    5-45
    5-45
    3-45
    2-45
    5-55
    5-55
5-60 (could have done 60 the entire time...)

    Thoughts:
~Workout environment was perfect. Country music, no one really talking or grunting, just the noise of weight being moved. Put me in a fantastic mood.
~Work was hard because of the new movements.
~Gym was super muggy because of rain. Walking out all sweaty after a workout and getting light rain on your face feels amazing!

    Questions:
~When do you know you should grab a spotter?
~Do you think it's okay to use the squat rack for your entire workout? I stayed in it for all of mine. I probably could have done with out for the power clean, but just like using it.
~I want to do some creeping-any one know of other female lifters/have links to their logs on here? Thanks!
~I forgot how it goes, but what are the order of which should be your strongest lift? I think the dead lift is supposed to be the heaviest but can't remember were the rest fall in line....

If you aren't benching in a power rack, then you pretty much will always need a spotter when benching heavy. It's an excellent excuse to bring in friends to work out with you btw. The other lifts should not use a spot.

It should be fine to hog the squat rack if you are squatting in it, presses are okay too. If the gym is packed and there's a line for the rack, then you should probably find some other open area of the floor to do your deadlifts and power cleans. But otherwise, if there's other racks open and nobody's waiting on yours, then there's no problem.
