Default what the fuck is wrong with people

The head retard trainer at my gym just replaced one of the fixed incline benches and one of the flat benches with two of these pieces of shit. His idea was that it allows for flat, incline, and decline bench, so it's more "versatile". Except it's fucking not.

You can't fucking flat bench on it because the seat is still angled backwards slightly when the bench is in the flat position. Not only does this make it difficult or impossible to get into a good arched position, you can't drive your feet into the floor. I pointed this out to the trainers and they said "thats what those foot pegs are for." I then demonstrated that if you try and drive against those foot pegs, you slide up the bench. It doesn't fucking work. Their response, "well if you do that then you end up using your legs instead of your chest to bench." My head exploded and I left it with, "whoever designed this piece of shit has no idea how to bench press."

These people are the same ones that told me a smith squat rack is "useful", but you aren't supposed to use it for squatting.

fuck. i could kill a bunny right now and not even feel bad about it.

You have the problem to solve, and it's not making him smarter.

I'm not sure which genius decided to name it an 'Olympic' bench.

I've tried benching on one of these, once, and it doesn't work at all. My advice is to do any benching at a time when the gym is empty so you can always get a decent bench.

Failing that, time for a new gym.

Where do you live? Can't you go support a black iron gym and avoid this? You're reinforcing their behaviour/mindset by being a member.

You've also said in another thread
^^ this... almost nobody around me to talk about achievements/failures/etc. with, except on this board.
Go to a meet and ask lifters where they train at. Or lookup future meets and email/phone the organisers (from my experience, they're usually masters lifters, or ex-lifters) and ask where sensible places to train are at.
Commercial gym goers do little to support black iron gyms. Why should guys with our mindset support commercial gyms? Even if you're training in some guy's power rack in his garage, it's better than what you're currently doing.

Unless you live in a small town with none of this. In that case, offer to buy their "superseded" bench for your garage.

If it makes you feel any better, about 15 years ago I interviewed with Hoist for a design engineer position. I was recommended for the job to the president of the company because I hit the gym on a regular basis. I still remember as part of the interview the Operations manager showing me through the shop and showing me equipment in various stages of being built. there was the Hoist version of the Smith machine and various leg press type machines. I asked the fatal question - Why are these machines better than squatting?

Shortly thereafter the interview ended... I got feedback from the person that had recommended me for the job that I had disrespected the company.

    I still chuckle about it.

Well, they can be, just not for anything strength related.

Leave the bunny alone, unless you're going to eat it. In that case, make sure you share with Kregna.
